Sophie Buijs Msc.

Sophie is a second year PhD at the Water and Climate Risk department of the Institute for Environmental Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she also did her masters in environmental science (cum laude). In her research, Sophie is trying to improve our understanding of post-disaster recovery from a multi-risk perspective, applying different quantitative, as well as qualitative methods (e.g. remote sensing, programming, statistical analysis, Bayesian Networks, and surveys). Within the BRIDGE project she is especially interested in the effect of pre-existing disaster management policies/hazard experience on COVID business recovery, and how recovery was influenced by coinciding natural hazard occurrences.
